SYMPOSIA SESSIONS

Symposium

Warming Responses of Tropical Plants and Ecosystems

Organizer(s):

Göran Wallin, Kerry-Anne Grey, Johan Uddling, Myriam Mujawamariya

This symposium treats warming responses of tropical plants and how these influence ecosystem processes and services in a changing climate.

The responses of tropical plants and ecosystem to warming is crucial for understanding their functioning, biodiversity and ecosystem services under climate change. It is particularly important to investigate warming responses complicated by the unique adaptations of plants to different ecosystem characteristics, such as disturbance-driven systems, successional stages, and altitudinal gradients. The goal of this session is to explore the current knowledge as well as the challenges and opportunities to better understand and predict these responses.

We welcome presentations that treat different types of warming responses, e.g. i) shifts in species composition, ii) changes in phenology patterns, iii) range shifts and migration, iv) increased physiological stress and vulnerability of individuals, v) changes in carbon dynamics, vi) altered water cycle, vii) impacts on biodiversity, viii) implications for conservation. We also welcome presentations showing how warming responses may interact with other environmental factors such as altered precipitation, land use change, and other human activities. We believe that all these aspects on warming responses are of great interest to ATBC attendees.
