SYMPOSIA SESSIONS
Symposium
Community-Based Solutions for the Conservation and Future of the Tropics
Organizer(s):
Camila Duarte Ritter
With the aim of better understanding the different types of interactions between people and biodiversity, we propose to explore examples of co-construction of tropical conservation strategies, through the integration of traditional and scientific knowledge. Bringing into focus community-based conservation models, exposing ways to increase biodiversity resilience and local empowerment.
This symposium seeks to explore the pivotal role of community-based conservation in achieving inclusive science for effective conservation, adaptation, and resilience in tropical ecosystems. Acknowledging the rich biodiversity and cultural diversity in tropical regions, the session will delve into the collaborative efforts between scientists and local communities. It aims to showcase successful models of inclusive science that integrate traditional ecological knowledge, ensuring the relevance and sustainability of conservation initiatives. The symposium will feature case studies, methodologies, and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge the gap between the ecological and social impact of tropical ecosystem conservation. By fostering dialogue among researchers, practitioners, and local communities, we aim to identify strategies that promote biodiversity conservation while respecting traditional peoples' rights and enhancing ecosystem resilience.
